for the San Carlos School Board

This section contains information and comments used for and related to my campaign for San Carlos school board in 2007. You can see more information on me on the League of Women Voters website. This page includes more information on my candidate statement, my background, and interests.

This candidate statement appeared in the voter pamphlet for the November 6, 2007 election for the San Carlos School Board.

Name: Sonya L. Sigler              Age: 40
Occupation: Mother/Businesswoman/Attorney

Education and Qualifications:

I have lived in San Carlos since 1994, and my three boys attend school in the San Carlos School District.  I believe it is very important to use all the resources of our community to provide our children with an excellent education.

As a pro-active member of the Governance Council of the San Carlos Charter Learning Center for two terms, I have completed many projects, including the staff handbook, parent handbook, the new family orientation, and instituting 10 goals each year.  District-wide, I have used my skills as an attorney, CFO, and salesperson to contribute to the Quality Space Committee, the San Carlos Educational Foundation, and the Chickens' Ball Steering Committee.

I will concentrate my efforts for the San Carlos School District on communication, transparency, and collaboration.  I will work hard to maintain an open dialog that is responsive and timely between the Board, teachers, parents, and community.  Transparency is important for parents to understand each school's curriculum, the homework policy, and the Board goals and objectives.  Given that only 25 cents of every tax dollar returns to the District, we need to collaborate as a community to use our resources wisely and effectively.
